I am curious. What is the "icing" made out of? Fabric paint?

A mix of glue and royal icing :)
Works like a charm but I don't really recommend it. They still look fine (12 months later) but I'm sure it won't last perfectly fine forever :p

nope! These are made of cinnamon and glue, and cinnamon is commonly used as a preserving agent, so they last for a long while ~~~
